Topping-Off Ceremony Marks Milestone in Construction Progress
On December 7, The M.S. Hershey Foundation and the construction team working to build The Hershey Story celebrated a milestone in the museum's development with a traditional "topping-off" ceremony to signify that workers had safely reached the highest point of construction.
Workers signed a steel beam as part of the "topping-off" ceremony to memorialize their involvement in the project. An American flag was attached to the beam, which was then hoisted onto the building's roof, where it will be sealed into the structure. The Hershey Story construction project is headed by Whiting Turner. Sub-contractors attending the ceremony included: Caretti (masonry); Southern Steel; Steward Amos (structural steel); Quality Electric; G. Earl Martin (drywall); and McClure Company (plumbing/HVAC).
To thank members of the construction crew for all their hard work, the M.S. Hershey Foundation hosted a barbeque lunch in their honor.
"We are very happy about the progress our dedicated construction team has made on The Hershey Story," said Marta Howell, executive director of The M.S. Hershey Foundation. "It is a thrill to watch this awesome building taking shape before our eyes."
The M.S. Hershey Foundation is partnering with the world-renown design team at Gallagher & Associates to create what lead designer Patrick Gallagher calls a "vivid and real experience" for visitors to The Hershey Story.
